France Introduces Mandatory Reporting for Large Crypto Wallets Under New Law
15.10.2026
France is tightening regulations on the digital asset sector by introducing mandatory reporting for cryptocurrency wallet holders with balances exceeding $112,000 (approximately 106,000 euros). The new requirement, which takes effect immediately, aims to increase transparency in crypto-asset transactions and prevent financial crimes, including money laundering and tax evasion.Under the new rules, all individuals and legal entities located in France who own cryptocurrency wallets are required to report their assets if their total value exceeds the established threshold. The French Ministry of Economy and Finance notes that the introduction of this measure is linked to the growing popularity of digital currencies and the increase in transaction volume: in 2025, France recorded more than 1.8 million active cryptocurrency holders, and the total volume of transactions exceeded 30 billion euros.Authorities emphasize that the new requirements will not only strengthen financial security but also boost confidence in the digital asset market. Significant fines and possible criminal prosecution are imposed for noncompliance. Banks and financial institutions have already received instructions on implementing new control and reporting procedures.Experts believe these measures could serve as a model for other European countries seeking to strengthen regulation of the crypto market while maintaining a balance between innovation and transparency.
